A message from the Chairman
This online guide succeeds the welcome pack and serves as an aide memoire to existing occupiers of the 34 houses that make up The Hithe, as well as providing a helpful introductory guide for all newcomers to this supportive and friendly community.
Our rare and natural environment sits in more than 800 acres of National Trust land and has evolved and matured for over half a century, creating tranquil surroundings without unsightly telegraph poles, electricity cables and other appendages of modern-day living that blight so many of today's built environments.
We are all keen for the status quo of The Hithe to be maintained and enhanced for our enjoyment and for those who follow us. This guide therefore serves as a reminder of the origins of the Hithe Residents' Association and the values to which we subscribe and try to uphold.
The passing of time and use of legal "jargon" in each of our deeds, and in particular the Covenants we have all signed up to, can lead to a lack of perceived clarity when interpreting them in the context of life in the 21st century. However, their spirit, intent and validity are clear and we offer, in this document, a more up-to-date interpretation, as well as what I believe are helpful suggestions and comment.
If you have anything you think ought to be included in the next revision of the guide, please contact any of the committee members whose names appear in the appendix.
May I conclude by explaining that the principal role of the Association is to seek to maintain the Covenants, and to ensure the continuing integrity of design and cared-for appearance of The Hithe. There is a positive and co-operative spirit in our community and we are confident that The Hithe will fully match the expectation of all newcomers to whom we extend a very warm welcome.
If there are any specific points you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the Chairman or another member of the committee.
— Chairman, The Hithe Residents' Association
